Werd Jo genoemd. In 1894 toegelaten tot de Utrechtse HBS, eerste klasse. Volgens nicht Nel van Heemskerck Düker ဘeen krengမ. Haar Amerikaanse neef Fried beschrijft haar alsမ short and a bit dumpy, her face [..] always ruddy in complexion, as if she had been in a strong cold wind for hours.မ

Op 3 april 1898, even voor haar 18e verjaardag, wordt zij als ·Äògedoopt·Äô vermeld door de Doopsgezinde gemeente in Leiden. Maar zij verhuist pas op 11 februari 1913. In 1919, als haar moeder overlijdt, woont zij in Leiden. In een stamreeks door haar neef Willem Frederik wordt zij vermeld als ·Äôhuishoudster van professor Van Oordt te Leiden·Äô.

Jarenlang was zij de vriendin en huisgenote van historisch letterkundige dr. Hilletje J.A. Ruys (1881-1956, conservatrice UB Leiden). In het Gelders Archief bevinden zich interessante documenten van het stel, waaronder dagboekjes van Jo: Inventaris familie Van de Flier, 1155 - 24: Personalia HJA Ruys, met name 45.2 (nalatenschap) en 45.3 (dagboekjes).
