Notes about Jan van WAESBERGHE de Oude


Als jong volwassene drukker te Antwerpen (in De Waekenden Haen aan de Korte Kammerstraat, bij zijn vader Jan). Later (na de Val van Antwerpen in 1585) drukker te Rotterdam, eerst in ·ÄòDe Faam·Äô op de Markt, daarna aan Westnieuwlant in De Leeuw. Van 1587 tot zijn dood stadsdrukker en uitgever van ruim 120 werken, vooral schoolboeken.

Met Jan van Waesberghe begint een indrukwekkende drukkersdynastie in Rotterdam. Het hele gezin verkeerde in drukkerskringen. Schoonzus Barbara van Bracht trouwde met de drukker Philips de Grave. Zijn ene dochter Elisabeth huwde de boekverkoper/drukker Felix van Sambix, de andere dochter Catharina trouwde met boekdrukker Abraham Elsevier.
