De giftet seg i Vår Frues Kirke, Trondheim, 8. mars 1896, forlovere var: Gårdbruker Odin Johansen Færvåg fra Fræna og Ole Norom fra Trondheim. Det opplyses fra kirkeboka at farfar var skomaker. Det vites ikke om han utøvde det yrket i Amerika. Han utvandret til Amerika i 1904. Han fant tydeligvis en plass i Shell Lake, Palermo Moutrail County, Nord-Dakota, hans kone Helga reiste etter ektemannen i 1905, hun hadde da med seg 4 barn på 11, 9, 8 og 4 år.
