Notes about Dora Eringa

Dora's obituary, from the Sioux County Capital (13 February 1936): Miss Dora Eringa was born in Springfield, South Dakota, in 1896 and was 39 years and 9 months of age at the time of her death. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. U. Eringa and the following sisters and brother: Grance, Mrs. John Vander Wey. Purewater, S.D.; Jessie, Mrs. Edwin Isaak, Hillsview, S.D.: Thryza, Mrs. Rev. Herman Harmelink, Hollandale Minn.; Alys, Mrs. Wm. Beltman, Orange City; and Pierre, Springfield, S. D. Miss Dora Eringa was graduated from the Northwestern Academy in 1917, and from Central College, Pella, in 1921. She took a postgraduate course at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. She taught in the Marcus High School one year. In August, 1922 she went as a missionary to Japan to further the work of the Reformed church. She was there 13 years. During a furlough in 1929 Miss Eringa attended the White Seminary in New York City working for her Master's Degree. In September, 1935 she suffered a nervous breakdown in Japan. On October 15, she arrived in Seattle and from there went to Iowa City for eight weeks of treatment. Since Dec. 9 it was necessary for her to be in the State Hospital in Cherokee. During the last few weeks her mental condition was greatly improved. Saturday word was received that she was ill with pneumonia which caused her death on Tuesday evening, Feb. 11, at 7:15 o'clock. She was a consecrated conscientious worker which probably had a great deal to do with her illness. Funeral services will be held in the First Reformed church at an undetermined date with the Rev. Mr. Colenbrander and Rev. Mr. H. Kuyper officiating.
