HE THANBEGAN TO WORK ON HIS DOCTORIET, BUT DID NOT WRITE HIS DISERTATION AS HE FELT IT TOOK TOO MUCH TIME FROM HIS FAMILY. HE WAS ALWAYS VERY ACTIVE IN THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS HOLDING MANY POSITIONS, ENCLUDING HIGH COUNCILMAN, COUNSLER TO A BISHOP, HIGH PRIEST GROUP LEADERSHIP, ETC. HIS FAVORIT CALLING IN THE CHURCH WAS TO TEACH THE GOSPEL OF OUR SAVIOR. HE SERVERD FOR AT LEAST FIFTEEN YEARS AS AN OFFICATOR IN THE TEMPLE. GORDON WAS NOT ABLE TO SPEAK OF HIS FAMILY (HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN) WITHOUT HAVING TEARS FLOOD HIS EYES AND HE WAS UNABLE TO SPEAK. HE WAS NOT A MAN WHO CRIED EASIELY - EXCEPT WHEN IT CAME TO HIS FAMILY. THEY WERE ALL-IMPORTANT TO HIM. HIS GREATEST DESIRE IN LIFE WAS TO LEAVE EACH OF THEM WELL OFF - OUT OF DEBT AND ACTIVE IN THE CHURCH. HE SELDOM SPENT ANY MONEY ON HIMSELF - RATHER HE SAVED IT FOR THE CHILDREN. HE LOVED TO HAVE THEM NEAR HIM. THIS WAS NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE WE ALL LIVED SO FAR APART AND THE CHILDREN FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO HAVE TIME TO VISIT WITH US.
