Johanna er født i Kasfjord i Trondnes kommune på gården "Brendmo". Etter at hun giftet seg og etter mange år, flyttet hun til Seljestad i Sandtorg kommune. Hun var nesten hele sitt liv plaget med astma. Likevel deltok hun i menighetsarbeidet i baptistkirken. Hun var også med i styret i "Hvite bånd".Hun var en hjemmets kvinne hele sitt liv. Etter at morfar døde, fikk hun ny kloakk til huset på Seljestad i 1950. Onkel Kalle overtok huset etter motmors død i 1966. Mormor er gravlagt på Fredly kirkegård.
