Heeft de laatste 10 jaar van zijn leven geleden aan asbestkanker (ook wel mesothelioom of borstvlieskanker genoemd) waarvoor hij gedurende die tijd behandeld werd in het Daniel den Hoed ziekenhuis in Rotterdam. Gedurende zijn ziekte heeft hij het dieet van zijn neef Dr Moerman gevolgd.
