Joseph Urbain MELIN (1814-1886), peintre romantique français.

Il entre aux Beaux Arts de Paris le 27 septembre 1830, il fut l'élève de Paul Delaroche et de David d'Angers.

Il débuta au Salon de 1836, obtint des médailles de troisième classe en 1843 et 1855 et de deuxième classe en 1845 et 1857.

Il est reconnu pour ses grandes peintures de vénerie où le chien devient un leit motiv.
