Deceased Name: Walter Anson Pease

Walter Anson Pease, 93, of Billings, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Aspen Meadows.

 

He was born on Sept. 29, 1920, in Lodge Grass to Anson and Mattie Hall Pease. After high school, he enlisted in the Marines, serving in combat at Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima during WWII. Upon discharge, Walt moved to Billings, met and married Wyoma "Jean" Asay in 1958, and together had one daughter, Terri. He was a bricklayer and union member for over 50 years.

 

Walt enjoyed elk hunting, fishing the Bighorn River, and camping with family and friends. He was also an enrolled Crow tribal member. Walt was known for his quick wit, practical jokes, generosity and making a great pot of chili. He was loved and will be missed.

 

He is survived by his daughter Terri (Chuck) Blackburn and granddaughters Lindsay Blackburn andAnnie (Ryan) Davis. He is also survived by Jean's daughters, Vicky Ochs and family, Peggy Clements and family, and the family of the late Linda Arbogast; as well as two brothers, Bernard and Anson; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding him in death was his wife of 54 years, Jean; his brothers Dan, Jim and Sylvester; and sisters Genevieve, Dorothy and Helen.

 

Viewingand visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 17, 6-8 p.m., at Smith's Downtown Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held at the Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery in Laurel on Friday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. with full military honors.

 

The family would sincerely like to thank the staff at Aspen Meadows for their compassionate care and help this past year.
