De família simples, nasceu na cidade de Armazém, região agrícola, ao sul de

Santa Catarina, em 28 de Janeiro de 1909. Seus pais, Jerônimo Westrupp e

Celestina Hoepers fizeram questão de educar o filho dentro dos princípios do

Evangelho e de uma fé que orienta todos os passos, atitudes e decisões.

Sentiu o chamado do Senhor, quando ao voltar de uma festa, certa noite,

passando em frente da igreja de sua cidade, tomado por um impulso, entrou e

pôs-se a rezar.

Em 1936 professou os seus votos religiosos na Congregação dos Padres do Sagrado

Coração de Jesus e em 01 de dezembro de 1940, foi ordenado sacerdote.

Desempenhou várias funções dentro da Congregação, porém sua função principal

foi designada pelo Senhor: fundar o Orfanato São Judas Tadeu em 19 de março de

1950, que se tornou uma das maiores obras assistenciais de São Paulo.

Pe. Gregório dirigiu o Orfanato São Judas Tadeu, que passou a chamar-se

Instituto Meninos de São Judas Tadeu, durante 33 anos. Deixou este mundo aos 74

anos, em 21 de Janeiro de 1983, vítima de pneumonia septicemia depois um longo

sofrimento que aceitou com admirável resignação.
Foi amado por todos, especialmente por seus meninos.
