A família Barni em Santa Catarina é natural de Botuverá, localidade de Ribeirão do Ouro, antes de 1962 pertencia ao município de Brusque. Biaggio ou Braz Barni, nasceu na Itália em 03 de fevereiro de 1846. Sua vinda para o Brasil deu-se após um incidente dentro do exército; Braz quebrou o braço de um militar e temendo um desfecho desagradável, conseguiu com seus amigos uma vaga no navio que vinha para o Brasil. Protegido pelos amigos que tinha na marinha italiana, Barni foi colocado dentro de um BARRICA DE CARVÃO, vistoriaram o navio e não o encontraram. Em alto mar ele saiu do esconderijo. Chegou no Brasil através do porto de Itajaí, subiu rio acima e foi até o município de Brusque, hoje Botuverá. 

 

Biaggio Barni nasceu aos 03.02.1846 em Monza, Província de Milano, Região da Lombardia, norte da Itália, filho de Giovanni Battista Barni e Catterina.
Imigrou para o Brasil com cerca de 30 anos de idade. Aqui se casou aos 17.02.1879 com Maria Perazza (nascida em Caravaggio, Província de Bérgamo, Itália, aos 25.03.1858, filha de Pietro Perazza e Teresa Ferrari (ou Legramante).
Biaggio Barni (Braz Barni) morreu no Ribeirão do Ouro aos 22.01.1933.
