Siverts mor Helle, var bror til Ole Sivertsen Ristad f.1758, d. 1817, som var bonde på Ristad. Ole var gift med Beret Olsdatter Bodsberg, f.1762 på Bodsberg vestre, d. 1841 og paret hadde ikke barn.
Ole Sivertsen døde relativt tidlig og ville at Helles sønn på Stene, Sivert, skulle overta gården. Dette var ikke formelt ordnet i et testamente, og da enken Beret giftet seg med Siverts halvbror Ole Olesen Stene, f. 1785 på Stene Nistu, d. 1852, gikk han glipp av gården.
Sivert forlangte i en skylddelingsforretning å få sin haldell av Ristad, og det ble bestemt den 22. okt. 1817, at Ristad skulle deles i to like deler, en til Beret, og en del til Sivert.
Den nye gården blir benevnt "Ny-Ristad.
