Notes about Avon Rogers

Personal History of Avon Rogers Arnell: I was born, Avon Rogers, May 10, 1925 in Paris, Bear Lake County, ID, the 4th child of Charles Fredrick and Lucile Low Rogers. My father was born Aug. 27, 1887, in San Francisco, CA to George Stenhouse and Elizabeth Atterton Rogers. They were both born in England. My mother was born May 16, 1889, in Paris, ID to David Nelson and Sarah Jane Mathews Low. He was born in Scotland and she was born in Providence, UT. I was blessed July 5, 1925, in the Paris 2nd Ward Church and baptized Sept. 9, 1933, in the Bear Lake Stake office in Paris, ID. I was born into a very loving family. My parents taught me what was right and what was expected of me. When I was born, my sister Helen was 14, Norma was 4 and my only brother, Scot, was 9. We had many good times growing up together. When Scot was 12 he had complications from a surgery and died. We were all heart broken at this tragedy and loss in our lives. I attended Emerson Grade School and Fielding High and Seminary in Paris, ID. Following graduation, I lived at home and began working in Montpelier at the medical office for Dr. Reed Rich. After World War II was over, DuWayne Arnell, from St. Charles, ID, and I were married in the Idaho Falls Temple Nov. 7, 1946. We lived in Montpelier and have resided there since. On July 27, 1949, a son, Mike was born and June 1, 1955, a daughter Kathleen. After their births, I resumed working in several medical offices for Dr. E.F. Landers, Dr. Jonathan Daines and Dr. Paul Daines, which I did until retirement in 1990. I really enjoyed all my working years. Nell Wilcox, Marlene Kunz, Dawn Wright and LaRae Nielson were so special to me. I became acquainted with many people from the valley. While living in various wards, I held positions in Relief Society, Mutual, Primary and was ward organist for many years in the 2nd and 5th Wards. Before Bancroft, ID had a branch library, I worked for several years in the Montpelier Genealogical Library ordering films from Salt Lake for the Bancroft and Bear Lake area. My sister and her husband invited us many times to visit them in Hawaii and the highlight of our travels was a European cruise, which took us as far north as Russia. In 1991, we were called as officiators in the Logan Temple. We traveled and worked for 2 days a week for nearly 10 years. It was a very spiritual experience. I was also privileged to play the organ in the chapel and prayer meetings. At present time, I am organist in the Relief Society and visiting teacher. I joined the DUP in 2003 and have enjoyed it. It makes you realize the sacrifices our ancestors went through. I am thankful that my children and their families are very active in the church. My second missionary grandson is in Indiana, one has returned from Argentina. My children are the greatest blessing in my life. I will always be thankful to my Heavenly Father for them.
