Notes about Magna Josephine Stromberg

Magna was a quiet gentle person, not one who would bring attention to

herself. Magna was an elementary school teacher before she married.

She taught in one room schools and lived usually with a family in the

area she taught as part of the room and board arrangement. Magna's

brother, George, developed tuberculosis. Since she was the only one

bringing in an incomeat the time, she paid for and accompanied George

to Mayo Clinic in Rochester. George was cured from TB and lived a

long time. Following the death of her father, Magna was left in charge

of the Stromberg farm after her brothers and sister moved away. She

rented it out several times, but due to the economy and the weather

rents were not forthcoming and eventually thefarm was lost due to non

payment of taxes. There are letter from her siblings imploring her to

come for a visit, but due to economic conditions she was not even able

to go to her mother's funeral. Magna had a cousin named Celia A.

Larson who married a Swanson. She also helped raise Robert's children

after the death of his wife, Ila Mae.
