Kanny Petronelle Larsen ble født på Grimstad i Bø i Vesterålen, og vokste opp i en sang- og musikkglad familie i en søskenflokk på 10, blant andre Alfred Ellingsen og Borghild Hanssen som bosatte seg i Hovden. Hennes mor Jakobine var datterdatter av Hovdens store sønn, Anton Isaksen. Kanny var kunnskapshungrig og likte å gå på skolen. I ungdomsårene flyttet hun til Oslo. Først arbeidet hun i spinneriet hos Hallèn. Senere var hun ansatt hos Doublaug til hun gikk av med pensjon. I Oslo traff hun også sin kjære Thorleif som hun giftet seg med under krigen. De flyttet sammen til Maridalsveien der hun fortsatt bor. Hun glemte aldri sitt barndomshjem pÃ¥ Grimstad, og tilbrakte mange ferier med sin Thorleif hos sin familie i Bø. Kanny er en fargerik person. Hun er dyktig til Ã¥ skrive og deklamere dikt om sitt ”eventyrland” der oppe i nord. (Klippet fra Visit Hovden/Jann R Hovden i forbindelse med Kannys 100 Ã¥rsdag.)
