His father Ole Fredriksen Paasche was a quartermaster in the northern Hedemarkiske company which explains why he was born in Skein, Telemark. Sons Jens Christian b 1748, Andreas b. 1755, Johan Uldrick b.1758 & Riccard b. 1764 are shown in 1801 Census living in Roan. Son Eilert Fredrick b. 1750 & Dtr Ane Fredericha b. 1761 are shown in 1801 Census living in Osen. Han var først militær og senere handelsmann (etter 1755). Han ble innrullert som korporal ved Nordenfjeldske Dragonregiment i Børsa 15. august 1745. Ble senere kvartermester ved sammeregiment. Han søkte avskjed 7. april 1755.4 Han var oppsitter på gården Fossum mens han bodde i Børsa. I 1755 fikk han kjøpt den av kongen for 300 rdlr, men han solgte den like etter til en Peder Jonssøn for 510 rdlr.3 I 1755 kjøpte han Løvøya i Afjord og flyttet hit. Driften her var omfattende og i 1762 er det 7 tjenere hos familien. I 1763 ble Reins klostergods i Bjørnør lagt ut til salg. Johan Fredrik kjøpte det for 3000 riksdaler og 4. juli 1763 fikk han skjøte. Iflg skjøtet betalte han kontant. I 1763 til 1766 bodde han på gården Stand, men flyttet til Hofstad i 1766. De neste årene drev han omfattende jordbruk og skogsbruk på gårdene sine. Johan Fredrik solgte unna delere av eiendommene sine og ved hans død var det bare 6 spann igjen.
