Karl var musikkalsk, og var med i Kabelvåg Musikkforening. I Kabelvåg var han en av tre som jobbet med å starte Kabelvåg Skolemusikk i 1959. Året etter flyttet han med sin fam til Storsteinnes, hvor han straks gikk i gang med å starte Storsteinnes skolemusikk. Her var han dirigent med øvelser 2timer to gang i uka, til sykdom hindret han. Det var skjelden andre voksne på øvelsene. Karl var også en habil "kunst maler". Han malte i to perioder av livet; Før familielivet, og etter han ble pensonert fra jobben pga sykdom.
