  After Reverend Hendrik de Cock from Ulrum had separated from the Reformed Church (hervormd) with a large number of similarly-minded people on October 13, 1834, comparable movements followed everywhere. This is also the case in Godlinze, where in 1836 there was a small independent separate community.
  
  A list of members of the hervormd church of Godlinze, drawn up on November 26, 1837, ended with a row of nine members who were known as afgescheidenen bij de Cocksgezinde gemeente (dissenters to the de Cock congregation). Among them were Klaas Knol and his wife Grietje Pieters.

  Little is known about the first gereformeerde church of Godlinze as there were only a small number of members. Elder was Jacob J. Jensema and deacon Derk Jacobs Engberts. Later P. Dijksterhuis became a deacon in Godlinze. Hendrik de Cock held a religious service at the last home on 11 August 1837. Among the audience of more than a hundred people were certainly Klaas Knol and his wife.
  The separated church of Godlinze was too small to remain independent. At a church board (classis) meeting on September 3, 1846 it was reported that the congregation of Godlinze, under its own consent, was merged into the congregation of Spijk.
