Thomas C. Haan, 78, a resident of Whiteside county 36 years, died in the Sterling Public hospital on Sunday (22 Sep 1946).

He was born Feb. 29, 1868 in the Netherlands, and was the son of Alex and Katherine Haan. After coming to this country he began farming near Union Grove, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was married three times: to Gertrude Hazekamp in 1895; to Jenie Busz in 1905 and to Anna E. Goodman in 1938. The first two wives preceded him in death. He was a member of the Christian Reformed church.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. John Wiersema of Ustick and Mrs. Hilda Tiesman; two sons, Alex and John Haan; 31 grandchildren; one brother and six sisters.
