Mr. Alfred C. Smith
THE death occurred at the
Toosey Hospital, Long-
ford, of Mr. Alfred Charles
Smith, one of the district's
pioneers and a respected
resident of Blackwood
Creek.
His funeral took place in
the Blackwood Creek ceme-
tery and was very largely
attended.
There was not sufficient
seating accommodation in
the church for the crowd.
The services in the church
and at the graveside were
conducted by the Rev. T. E.
Doyle.
Mr. Smith led a simple,
quiet life, his chief re-
creations being with his gun
and his dog.
Hymns were played at the
church service by Mrs. H.
E. Hayes (organist).
The pall bearers were
Messrs. L. Dennis, V. Frank-
combe, L. Preece and P. J.
Hegarty.
The chief mourners were
the widow and sons Regi-
nald (Cressy), Ray (Black-
wood Creek), Cyril
(Lochiel), Claude (Black-
wood Creek), Maida (Mrs
Gelston, Westbury), Rhonda
(Mrs. A. Palford, Lake
Leake); brothers, Messrs. J.
J. Smith and Wilfred
Smith (Blackwood Creek).
Funeral arrangements were
by G. W. Hudson, Longford.

bury), Rhonda (Mrs. Pul-
ford, Lake Leake), and
Dawn (Mrs. Vincent Smith,
Creekton), in his 76 year.
