. Alan was a pilot of a Swordfish during the war. On 18 Oct 1941 when he was aged 20 years he was killed taking part in a mission to escort Albacore aircraft from Gibraltar to Malta. Malta suffered heavy losses during the war but was vital to the allied efforts during the war. Missions like the one, which Alan died on, were very common.
