MR. ARTHUR TIPPETT
Mr. Arthur Tippett died recent
ly at his residence, Upper Mt.
Hicks. He came to Tasmania
from Adelaide in his early twen
ties. He arrived in Launceston,
walked to the Coast, and took up
land in the Henrietta district, por
tion of which was later purchased
by the late Colonel Sir George
Bell. He then purchased a prop
erty from his brother-in-law, Alec
Bethune. It was then virgin bush,
and he scrubbed, burned out and
grassed, and also assisted others
in the district. He was also a
skilled blacksmith, and was called
on to do repairs for miles around.
His activities on the land mainly
consisted of grazing and dairying.
For a period he was in charge of
the first creamery in the district.
He was later one of the prime
movers in starting the Yolla Dairy
Co. and the Table Cape butter
factory; also the freezing and
canning works at Somerset. In
his younger days he was an ard
ent cricket fan, and travelled many
miles to a match. He was later
secretary of the South Wellington
(Mt. Hicks) Cricket Club. He was
also very interested in church af
fairs. In 1894 he married Miss
Amy Yorey. who predeceased him,
leaving a family of six young
children. Later he married Miss
Linda Heazlewood, who survives
him.
Carriers were Messrs. A. Tip
pett, P. and T. Bramich and F.
Gardiner. Pallbearers were Messrs.
J. Biggins, H. Morey, C. Cross and
J. Beamish.Fi

band of Linda Marian Tippett, of
Upper Mount Hicks, loved father of
Florence (Mrs. R. C. Nunn, Mount
Hicks), Sidney (Oldina), Les
(Mount Hicks), Alice (Mrs. T.
Westward, Victoria), Bert (Nietta),
Amy (Mrs. Reg Clarke, Cooee);
aged 88 years.
