Wearing a gown of white duchesse satin,
Mirrie Elaine, only daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. A. Shadbolt, "Strathlyn," Ulver-
stone, was married to Frederick John, only
son of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Layton, "Ben
Acre," Kindred, on Saturday, October 23,
in the Methodist Church, Ulverstone, Rev.
A. Crookes Hull officiated.
The church had been decorated by Mrs.
W. J. Mason and helpers with bowls of
spring flowers. The bride was given away
by her father. Her gown featured a
heart-shaped neckline, and the softly fold-
ed bodice, with its deep waistline, was
shirred on the shoulders. Sleeves were of
elbow-length, and the full shirt fell into
a circular train. Long white kid gloves
were worn, and the bride carried a shower
of white stocks, camellias and lily-of-the
valley, with trails of asparagus fern and
white satin streamers. A coronet of
orange blossom held in place the long em-
broidered veil over cut tulle, loaned by
the groom's sister, Mrs. R. Wyatt, as also
was the white satin cushion on which the
bride knelt.
The two bridesmaids were Miss Kathleen
Stuart and Miss Loris Thompson. 'The
former's frock of white satin-striped moire
taffeta, was full-skirted, with a V-neck
lino and short puffed sleeves. Her com-
panion chose white moire taffeta, made on
similar lines. Both maids wore short net
veils, with small clusters of scarlet azaleas
in their hair, and carried bouquets of thc
same vivid flowers and maidenhair fern,
tied with scarlet ribbons. The groom's
gifts of an emerald dress ring and a gold
love-knot brooch respectively were worn.
The best man was Mr. David Wyatt,
and the groomsman, Mr. Frank Dawes.
Mrs. Lindsay Gillard (Launceston) sang
"I'll Walk Beside You," and Miss Clare
Saltmarsh was organist. As the bride
left the church a horseshoe was placed on
her arm by little Olwyn McKendrick. The
bouquets were made by Mrs. W. Hawkey.
The reception was held at the Majestic
Cafe. The tables were arranged with
Iceland poppies and other spring flowers
by the West Ulverstone sub-branch of the
Red Cross. The diamond-shaped cake of
three tiers was made by the bride's
mother, and decorated by Mrs. Dolbey.
Mrs. Shadbolt, the bride's mother, was
frocked in grey silk crepe, with touches of
mauve. Her hat and other accessories
were navy, and she wore a shoulder spray
of mauve stocks and maidenhair fem. Mrs.
Layton, the bridegroom's mother, chose a
frock of embroidered old rose crepe, with
a black summerweight coat. Her black
hat was trimmed with black and pink, and
her shoulder spray was a cluster of pink
carnations.
When leaving for the honeymoon in
Northern Tasmania, the bride travelled in
a frock of French grey and dusty pink
repp, with a lightweight woollen coat to
match. Navy accessories included a felt
hat trimmed with dusty pink felt flowers,
and a spray of pink and mauve stocks was
pinned on one shoulder. The home of
Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Layton is at Kindred.
