Mr. Banfield, who was the eldest son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Charles Banfield of Sheffield, was well known in the Ulverstone district, where he spent most of his life. He was a farmer in the Sprent district for many years. He was an expert ploughman, and was a well-known figure at ploughing matches wherever they were held on the North West coast. He won many championship ploughing contests. He had been a member of the Ulverstone council for a number of years. from Marguerite Byard
