Notes about Vern Hugh FARMER

Vern Farmer, age 89, of Pleasant Grove passed away Monday, May 7, 2001 at his home with his family at his side.

He was born September 12, 1911 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard M. and Annie B. Bills Farmer. He married Erma Pierce on March 31, 1938 in Salt Lake. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He played trombone in the

U. S. Army Band for six years. During World War II he worked in ballistics for DuPont and the Atomic Energy Commission in Hanford, Washington. He later worked as a supervisor at Clearfield, Utah.

When the war ended, he moved his family to Fremont, Wayne County, UT where he established his own processing plant and market known as "Farmers Fresh Eggs". Missionary work was his first love and after his retirement in1974, he and his wife served a full-time mission in Canada. After returning home, they spent the next 28 winters in Mesa, AZ. In 1988 they moved to Pleasant Grove, UT where they spent their summers.

He is survived by his wife Erma of Pleasant Grove; five children: Richard (Judy) Farmer, Herriman; Carol (Wilford) Pace, American Fork; Vern (Judith) Farmer, Taylorsville; Starr (Bernell) Hofheins, Pleasant Grove; Randy (Claudia) Farmer, Annabella, UT; 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Connie Mulkey. He was preceded in death by brothers: Merl, Arch, and Darrell; and sisters: Jessie Nelson and Madge

Douglas; and a great-grandson, Noah Lee Farmer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove Stake Center, 275 East 500 South. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery
