Notes about Comte Yves de CREIL de Bellême

BIOGRAPHY
Ivo was the first certain progenitor of the house of Bellême. He was probably the son of Ives or Yves de Creil, also known as Ivo de Bellèsme of Bellême, one of the nobles who rescued the young Richard I 'the Fearless', duke of Normany, and saved him from death or mutilation when he was confined at Lâon by King Louis IV of France. Ivo held the castle and lands of Bellême from the king of France, as well as the Sonnois and part of Passais, both held from the count of Maine. That he held part of the march-lands of Passais is known from his gift to Abbot Gauzlin of Fleury Abbey of the lands of Magny-le-Désert. Ivo was _Balistier_ (commander of war engines) for Louis IV 'd'Outremer', king of France.

Ivo's wife was named Godehildis or Godeheut. Although her parentage is unknown, she was the sister of Seinfroy, bishop of Le Mans. They had at least five children of whom Guillaume would have progeny.

Ivo was the founder of a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in his castle of Bellême. He donated the estate of Magny-Le-Désert to the abbey of Saint-Benoît-sur-Loir. He died before December 1012.Source 1
