A social evening was given in the
Methodist schoolroom on Monday even
ing for the purpose of farewelling and
presenting Miss Edith Bean with a silver
cruet and silver jam dish from the Chris
tian Endeavour Society, church choir,
and Sunday school. The presentation
was made on behalf of the societies by
the Rev. R. Bayles, who in a neat speech
wished the recipient every happiness in
her future married life. Refreshments
were handed round, and the meeting con
eluded by singing "God be with you till
we meet again."
On Tuesday Mr. Robert Ayton, an old
native of Longford, but now a resident
of Burnie, was united in marriage to
Miss Edith, daughter of Mr. H. Bean,
of Longford. The ceremony was per
formed by the Rev. R. Bayles in the pre
sence of a number of friends. Mr. and
Mrs. Ayton left by the train for Bur
nie, a number of friends and acquain
tances being present to see them off and
give the usual showers of rice, flowers,
etc., as the train steamed away.
