In 1666 slaat de pest toe in Brummen. Arend, zijn vrouw, zijn moeder en zijn beide jonge

kinderen worden het slachtoffer en vinden in julie van dat jaar de dood. Het uitsterven

in enkele dagen van zo'n heel gezin maakte indruk in Brummen.
