 Franciscus Thomas van der Sommen (1875 - 1932)

 

1. Geboren

Franciscus Thomas (Cis) van der Sommen werd geboren in Eindhoven op 8 mei 1875 als zoon van Carolus van der Sommen, borstelfabrikant te Eindhoven en Maria Agnes Smits.

Zijn ouders waren toen al negenjaar getrouwd en hadden toen al drie dochters:

Wilhelmina Jacoba, Elisabeth Francisca en Huberdina Catharina.

 

De geboorteakte luidt als volgt:

 

In het jaar een duizend achthonderd vijf en zeventig, den tienden Mei is voor ons Ambtenaar van den burgerlijken stand der gemeente Eindhoven, in het huis der gemeente, verschenen: Carolus van der Sommen, oud veertig jaren borstelmaker wonende te Eindhoven, die in tegenwoordigheid van twee getuigen als van Willem Dings, oud drie en zestig jaren tuinman en van Jan Feyen oud veertig jaren koperslager beide wonende binnen deze gemeente, ons heeft verklaard dat Maria Agnes Smits, oud zes en dertig jaren zonder beroep, wonende te Eindhoven, alhier is bevallen van een kind van het mannelijk geslacht, geboren op den achtsten dezes om half tien ure des avonds welk kind zal genaamd worden Franciscus Thomas.

 

van welke verklaring wij de tegenwoordige akte hebben opgemaakt, die, na de voorlezing is ondertekend door ons, de comparant en de getuigen.

 

Militaire Dienst 

 

27 juni 1895, toen hij twintig was, tekende Franciscus vrijwillig een zesjarig contract om als soldaat te dienen. Zijn bewijs van ontslag omschrijft hem als 1,67 m lang, aangezicht ovaal, voorhoofd gewoon, oogen blauw, neus gewoon, mond klein, kin rond, haar blons, wenkbrauwen idem, merkbare tekenen: wonden linker onderarm.

 

Hij diende bij het 4e bataljon 2e Regiment Infanterie.

 

Staat van Dienst: Den 27 Juni 1895 vrijwillige geëngageerd als Soldaat voor zes jaren met f 60,- premie, Is ingeschreven voor de militie in 1894 voor de lichting van 1895 voor de gemeente Eindhoven/ Noord braband /onderd: 10. Elevenmuziekant mei 1897, Soldaat den 24 Augustus 1899.

Den 26 juni 1901 met paspoort wegens dienstbeëindiging. Het bewijs goed gedrag afgegeven.

Werk

Van wat Franciscus Thomas in het dagelijks leven uitvoerde is weinig bekend.

Uit de gegevens van de volkstelling van 1921 blijkt zijn beroep: Kraambouwer en Winkelier.

Mijn vader heeft me weleens verteld dat hij ook muzikant was en meespeelde bij harmonie Phileuthonia. Maar welk instrument hij bespeelde weet ik niet. 

 

 

 

 

Eerste Huwelijk 

 

Franciscus Thomas trouwde op 24 augustus 1905 op dertig jarige leeftijd in Eindhoven met Theresia van den Boomen.

Getuigen bij de huwelijkssluiting waren:

Petrus Adrianus Roos, oud zes en dertig jaren koopman wonende te Eindhoven zwager van de echtgenoot,

Johannes Theodorus de Kok oud vijf en twintig jaren kleermaker wonende te Woensel zwager van deechtgenoot (getrouwd met zus Catharina Arnolda)

Johannes Cornelis Dingen oud drie en dertig jaren wonende te Woensel zwager van de echtgenoot (getrouwd met zus Elisabeth Francisca) en

Hendrikus van der Beek oud drie en dertig jaren agent van politie wonende te Eindhoven.

 

Theresia was toen zeven en dertig jaar oud, en bijna twee jaar weduwe van de op 2 juli 1903 overleden Gerardus Rovers. Gerard was toen slechts vijf en dertig jaar oud, en liet Theresia achter met vier kleine kinderen.

Zo heeft de vrijgezelle Cis van der Sommen vanaf zijn de trouwdag ineens een gezin met vrouw en vier kinderen. Maria 9 jaar, Elisabeth 7 jaar, Christina 4 jaar en Arnoldus 3 jaar.

 

Ze kregen samen nog twee kinderen, Philomena Maria en Philomena Huberdina, waarvan Philomena Maria iets meer dan een jaar werd, en Philomena Huberdina slechts 8 maanden leefde.

 

Trees sterft op 26 maart 1920 en Cis blijft achter met de vier stiefkinderen.

Bijde volkstelling van 1921 bestaat het gezin dat op adres Groote berg 49 woont, behalve uit vader Franciscus Thomas, te bestaan uit Maria Dimphina 27 jaar fabrieksarbeidster, Elisabeth Dimphina 23 jaardienstbode (Later verhuisd naar Julianastraat 16 en nog later naar Hoefkesstraat 40 in Eindhoven), Christina Henrica 20 jaarfabrieksarbeidster Philips Proeffabriek (verhuisd naar Bosboomstraat 11, later Palingstraat 30), Arnoldus Jacobus 19 jaar Kelner en Marktkramer.

 

 

Tweede Huwelijk 

 

Op 12 oktober 1921 trouwt Franciscus Thomas, die dan 46 jaar oud is in Tilburg met Paulina Petronella Bastings, 31 jaar oud.

Ze was de jongste dochtervan Charles Bastings, die als jongeman als Zouaaf vocht in Italie om de Paus te helpen zich te verdedigen tegen de troepen van Garibaldi.

Getuigen van de huwelijkssluiting waren Johannes Cornelis Heerkens, oud vijftig jaren, bankwerker, wonende alhier, zwager der echtgenoote,

Petrus Paschalis Paschasius Bastings, oud vier en veertig jaren, voerman, wonende te Eindhoven, broeder der echtgenoote.

 

 

 

17 september 1922 werd hen een zoontje geboren: Carolus Petrus Cornelis

 

 

 

 

 

Op 1e kerstdag 25 december 1932 stierf mijn grootvader, 57 jaar oud.
