Notes about Hindrik Ottens

Reeds op jonge leeftijd trad Hendrick Ottens op als erfbuur te Eext. Op 15 februari 1659 ondertekende Hubert Struuck van Bonnen drie schuldbekentenissen aan de kerk van Gieten. Alle drie werden ze door Hendrick als getuige ondertekend. In 1670 trad Hendrick voor zijn schoonvader Harmen Meyeringe op als volmacht tijdens een rechtszaak voor de Etstoel inzake een pandkering. Hij trad twee maal op als ondertekenaar van willekeuren, beide in 1671 en rakende de Oostermoerse venen. In 1672 woonde hij aan de Schaapstreek te Eext als 'volle' boer. Dit hield in, dat hij het maximumbedrag aan belasting betaalde, namelijk vier gulden voor het bezit van vier paarden. Op 19 juni 1674 trad hij op als landdagcomparant voor het Oostermoer. Hij is op 17 mei 1674 te Westerlee gehuwd met Willemtien Maethuys, die in 1672 nog vermeld wordt in het Haardstedenregister van Eext als weduwe van Warmolt Meyeringe. Dit tweede huwelijk bleek al spoedig erg slecht te zijn. Willemtien verliet Hendrick, waarna hij op 8 december 1674 naar de Etstoel stapte. Hij eiste te horen van zijn vrouw, waarom zij hem verlaten had. Twee jaar later, op 6 juli 1676, werd hun huwelijk door de Etstoel ontbonden verklaard. Bij de opgave voor de monsterrollen van 1689, waarbij van alle gezinshoofden werd genoteerd of ze een roer of een piek hadden, danwel of ze ziek waren, bleek Hindrick Ottens ziek te zijn. Achter zijn naam wordt dan ook geen wapen vermeld. In 1692 woonde Hendrick als keuter in een huisje te Eext. Zijn dochter Grietien woonde toen met haar man in het huis waarin Hendrick in 1672 werd vermeld. Mombers over de kinderen uit het eerste huwelijk bleken Jacob Ottens, Barelt Julsinge en Albert Meyeringe. Hendrick overleed in zijn woonplaats Eext op 21 juni 1693. Willemtien Maethuys stierf op 8 juni 1695 eveneens te Eext.
