Barend ondertekent op 16 maart 1795 het 'patriottisch declaratoir', waarmee de katholieken in Houten na de Bataafse Revolutie een greep deden naar de macht in het gemeentebestuur (Het Kromme Rijngebied 29). In 1799 verklaart Barent SCHRIJVERSHOF dat zijn huisje, gelegen tussen de Utrechtse Dijk en het Loerikse Zandpad, en met behulp van het R.K. armbestuur gebouwd, na hun overlijden zullen toekomen aan het armbestuur.
