Physical description: Life of the Blessed Virgin, p 221: He was handsome and very gifted. His complexion was pale, and he had a high forehead, large eyes, and black curly hair. He had a short black curly beard, divided in the middle.
Religion: Essene, disciple and one of the 12 apostles (Life of Jesus Christ, Vol 2, p 37, 438, Life of the Blessed Virgin, p 215-230, Der Wandel Jesu, Part IV).
(Relationship) : He was a cousin of Simon and Thaddeus and related to Philip (Life of Jesus Christ, Vol. 2, p 417-8). Thus his mother or father could have been a sibling of Alphaeus or of Mary Cleophas. One possibility is shown here..
He died after 42.
Bartholomew was present at Mary's death (Life of the Blessed Virgin, p 215-230). Bartholomew had been in Asia, east of the Red Sea. He had just converted a king and his family. When he returned there he was murdered by the king’s brother.
