Zij had een winkeltje in grutterswaren op de dijk aan de kant van de Zuiderzee. De huizen stonden daar op palen vanwege de eb en vloed. Toen de dijk in 1916 doorgebroken was, en Volendam onder water stond, rolde zij het vloerkleed op, deed het luik open en ving zo de rondzwemmende eenden, die nadat ze een kopje kleiner gemaakt waren, verkocht werden.
