Floris d'Avesnes (1255 - 23 Januari 1297) was een zoon van Jan d'Avesnes, Graaf van Henegouwen, en van Aleid van Holland. van zijn vader kreeg hij het stadhouderschap over Zeeland. Na zijn vertrek

uit Zeeland ging hij in dienst bij Karel II van Napels, die hem aanstelde tot connétable van het koninkrijk Napels. In 1289 huwde hij met Isabella, dochter van Willem II van Villehardouin, prins van

Achaea, en werd zelf prins van Achaea in naam van zijn echtgenote. Hij had één dochter, Mathildis, die hem zou opvolgen als vorstin van Achaea en zou trouwen met Gwijde II van La Roche.

Floris

voerde een verzoenend beleid tegenover Byzantium. De Fransen hadden immers hun handen vol in Sicilië en konden hem geen hulp sturen in de strijd. Langs diplomatieke weg verkreeg hij in 1296 Kalamát

a terug dat door de Grieken in 1293 was ingenomen. De Grieken namen nu echter het kasteel van Sint-George in Arcadia in. Floris sneuvelde bij de belegering van het kasteel.
