Question/answer » What are research questions and how do I use them?

In family tree research you get stuck on questions. Where was great-grandfather born? Who was that second wife? You can put such questions in your family archive as a research question. That way the whole family knows what you are looking for.

How to create a research question

  1. In your archive go to Research.
  2. Click Add research question.
  3. Give a title and describe what you already know and what you are looking for.
  4. Under Search location enter where you have already searched, or where you still want to search.
  5. Save.

Notes

You can add notes to every research question. For example: Checked Zwolle archive, nothing found in 1880-1890. That way you keep track of what you have already done. Participants can add notes too. Maybe an uncle knows the answer, or a niece has a document.

Tip

Give research questions keywords, just like photos. Then you can find all questions about one branch of the family.
