Besides publishing your family tree, Genealogy Online offers tools for your research. You will find them on the Reference page. They are free and you do not have to log in.

The tools

• Genealogical standards and guidelines: rules for good research, such as citing sources. A translation of the guidelines of the National Genealogical Society.
• Genealogical research process: an overview of the steps in good research. From question to proof.
• Calendar converter: converts dates between the Gregorian, Julian, French Republican and Jewish calendars. Handy for old records, for example from the French period.
• Phonetic codes: calculate the Soundex or Metaphone code of a name. This helps you find names that are spelled differently but sound the same.
• Genealogical dictionary: the meaning of old words and terms you come across in records.
