Notes about Catharine Learmonth

1. Darnick is a small village nestled between the lofty heights of the Eildon Hills and the fertile banks of the River Tweed, just along the road from the Border town of Melrose and a pleasant walk from the new Tweedbank rail station.
It's name comes from two Anglo-saxon words ‘derne’ meaning hidden and ‘wic’ a dwelling, and has transposed from Dernewic, Dernwic and Darnwick to the present spelling, first recorded in 1124.
The village has undergone many changes in its long history and continues to embrace new developments in its future, while still retaining the charm and character of an historic Borders community.
