THOMAS YOUNG AND MARGARET CUNNINGHAM.

[A] Thomas YOUNG and Margaret CUNNINGHAM, both of Kilwinning, gave in their names for marriage on Friday 24 January, 1783, and were duly proclaimed in the Kirk, and married there on 14 February following. Margaret was born at Lower Fergusshill, in Kilwinning Parish, on 22 January 1755, a daughter of Robert CUNNINGHAM and Janet FERGUSSON.

No details have yet been found of the deaths of either Thomas or Margaret.

They had issue:

1. Robert YOUNG, born at Blacklands, 13 January 1784. See [B] below.

2. Thomas YOUNG, born at Blacklands, 9 December 1785, and baptised at Kilwinning Kirk, 11 December; evidently died young.

3. Mary YOUNG, born at Blacklands, 13 May 1788 (her mother recorded, evidently in error, as Agnes CUNNINGHAM); perhaps the Mary INNES, aged 60, living with Robert and Thomas YOUNG in the 1841 Census?

4. Janet YOUNG, born at the Byres, 20 January or June 1791, and baptised at Kilwinning Kirk, 3 July; she died at Bridgend, Kilwinning, 26 November 1868, aged 77 (parents named); she was married at Kilwinning, 7 November 1812, to James SERVICE, Blacksmith, of Bridgend; they were at Bridgend, 1841 census, with three children; ditto, 1851, with a son; ditto, 1861, with a grand-daughter; they had issue:
a. William SERVICE, born at Kilwinning, 10 April 1814; of Carsehill, Kilwinning pasrish, 1851 Census, aged 36, Blacksmith, with his wife and five children; he was probably married at Kilmaurs, 24 May 1839, to Mary MILLER; with issue:
i. Charles SERVICE, born at Kilwinning, 1844.
ii. Janet SERVICE, born at Kilwinning, 1846.
iii. James SERVICE, born at Kilwinning, 1850.
iv. Margaret SERVICE, born at Kilwinning, 1855.
v. William SERVICE, born at Kilwinning, 1858.
b. Margaret SERVICE, baptised at Kilwinning, 15 October 1816.
c. James SERVICE, baptised at Kilwinning, 16 August 1818.
d. Margaret SERVICE, born at Kilwinning, 6 August 1820; with her parents, 1841; she died at High manor, Kilwinning, 19 March 1896, aged 77 (parents named), the death informed by her son-in-law Robert BRYSON; she was married at Kilwinning, 3 February 1843, to James HUNTER; they had issue:
i. a daughter; married Robert BRYSON.
e. James SERVICE, baptised at Kilwinning, 24 November 1822.
f. Janet SERVICE, baptised at Kilwinning, 4 September 1825.
g. Agnes SERVICE, baptised at Kilwinning, 17 December 1826; with her parents, 1841; at Carsehill, Kilwinning, 1861 Census, aged 34, Widow, Shirt and cap maker (Pauper), with four children; she was married at Kilwinning, 22 April 1845, to James WILSON; with issue:
i. Janet WILSON, born in 1846.
ii. John WILSON, born in 1847.
iii. Margaret WILSON, born in 1850.
iv. James WILSON, born in 1852.
v. Sarah WILSON, born in 1854.
vi. James WILSON, born in 1858-59.
h. Janet (?) SERVICE, baptised at Kilwinning, 25 April 1830.
j. Thomas SERVICE, baptised at Kilwinning, 20 May 1832; with his parents, 1841; with his parents, 1851, Blacksmith; ditto, with his mother, 1861.

Thomas YOUNG, born at the Byres, 29 November 1793, and baptised at Kilwinning Kirk, 1 December; aged 45+, a Cotton Hand Loom Weaver, residing with his brother Robert in the 1841 Census; aged 55, Silk Weaver, with his brother Robert in the 1851 Census; at Townhead, Kilwinning, 1861 Census, aged 67, Silk Weaver; ditto, 1871, aged 78, Cotton Weaver; at Townhead Road, Kilwinning, 1881 Census, aged 87, formerly Silk weaver; he died at Town Head, Kilwinning, 22 September 1884, Weaver, aged 90 (parents named), the death informed by his grand-nephew, Robert YOUNG, of Winton Place, Beith; unmarried.
