MELANCHOLY SUICIDE. On the morning of Sabbath last, a deep gloom was cast over a part of the town by the news that Margaret Blair, widow of Edward Blair, late Sexton of this parish, had committed suicide, by hanging herself in her own house. The unfortunate woman resided in the Cemetery Lodge, and it appears has frequently, for some time past, threatened to take her life, being, from some cause or other in a depressed state of mind. On Sabbath morning, between seven and eight o'clock, she rose and opened the cemetery gate. Thereafter, in a state of excitement, she rushed into the room where her children were, and forthwith proceeded to adjust a rope (which she attached to a bedpost) around her neck. Deceased's eldest son, a boy about nine years of age, on observing her, went and told a neighbour, who, on seeing what had happened, procured immediate assistance, and the body of the unhappy woman was cut down. Medical aid was promptly procured, but with no avail, as life was found to be extinct. Deceased leaves behind her four children, two of these being twins only three months old-a circumstance which gives the case a saddening aspect.
