2. Gerald BRINGHURST Ancestor of above, Geneanet
Hello Gerald,
My name is Colin Harrower. I live in Cowdenbeath, Fife, Scotland.
My maternal Grandmother was Helen Rankin, 1901-1976, b. Kennoway, Fife, and I can trace her line back to John Rankin, b. 1724, in Kilmarnock. He marries Elizabeth Burnett in 1756 at Kilmarnock. The family are farmers at Wardneuk Farm in Kilmarnock between 1761 and 1861, also Goatfoot Farm and Crawlaw Farm in Kilmarnock area between 1861 and 1901.
For the past, I forget how many years, I have been contemplating parents for John Rankin b. 1724.
The book "History of Kilmarnock" by Archibald McKay, Chapter 10, suggested that the Rankin's were in the Mill at Shilling-hill in Kilmarnock, till around 1703. They then had the mill at New Mill (South East of Kilmarnock) after 1703, the mill there being built to replace the one in Kilmarnock.
The parents i've been contemplating are John Rankin and Sarah Finlay. They have 11 Children of which 9 I can find, when he is the Miller at New Mill.
I also have evidence of an Adam Galt marrying a Margaret Cunningham, in 1715. Adam is a Wright from Struthers Farm, which is 1/4 mile from New Mill. The witnesses at his marriage appear to be his brother, James Galt, Farmer of Struthers Farm, and Robert Rankin, Miller, of Newmill.
The only thing that I can find that links is the book History of Kilmarnock.
I then came across your tree here, and saw you were a direct ancestor to Adam Muir and Letice Rankin.
Their marriage indicates Adam was a weaver in Kilmarnock and her Father was John Rankin, Wright in Loanhead. There is a Loanhead in Kilmarnock in the SE, near to New Milns!
I was wondering if there is any other way you can help me in proving Johns Parents. I am 99.9% sure, but as you know that's not enough proof.

Thanks in anticipation
Colin Harrower
