Notes about Janet Steel

1. Ref Scottish Coalmining Ancestors by Lindsay S. Reeks.
When I first checked, and recorded the birth and parents of Janet Steel, I had mistakenly recorded her birth date as 21 January 1754, and her parents were recorded as Robert Steel and Jean Braid. IAW the book, Scottish Coalmining Ancestors by Lindsay S. Reeks, (page 222) she was born 11 December 1756, baptised 19 December, in Inveresk Parish, to Abraham Steele and Margaret Wilson. This is more likely, as the Scottish naming pattern works, ie first son named after Abraham, her Father, and her second Daughter was named after her Mother

Witness at marriage believed to be her Father, Abram Steel, and his Father, James Archibald

Janet, b. 11 Dec., bp. 19 Dec. 1756, Inveresk p.. wit: George Steill, Abraham Benett [151]. This birth & baptism is recorded with the same dates and witnesses in Newton p. [2]. M. Andrew Archibald.

4. Ref Scottish Coalmining Ancestors by Lindsay S. Reeks.
JANET STEEL was b. 11 Dec., bp. 19 Dec. 1756, Inveresk p., . to Abraham Steele & Margaret Willson. This birth and baptism was also recorded in Newton p., with same dates and witnesses. The proclamation of marriage, and not the marriage to Andrew Archibald, was recorded 9 Jul. 1775 in Inveresk p. Witnesses were James Archibald, for man, and Abram Steel, for woman [76]. It is likely this pr. of m. relates to the ancestor, as it is felt that the witness, Abram Steele, was likely her father. Her first son was named Abraham, and her second was named Margaret. She d. a year before Andrew and was bu. 18 Feb. 1832 in Inveresk p., Jennet Steel, spouse to Andrew Archibald [33]
