William was married at Hill Farm, Loudoun, by proclamations dated 1 June 1850, to Janet Burns HOWATSON.; she was at Warder's Farm, High Ongar, Essex, 1911 Census, residing with her Grandson William KERR; she died at Ongar Park Hall, Stanford Rivers, Essex, 25 December 1818, aged 88, informed by James KERR, the son-in-law; she was buried at Bobbingworth churchyard (without a monument).

William and Janet had issue, including:
1. Mary Lindsay THOMSON, born at Loudoun, January 1851; aged 3 months, with her parents, 1851 Census; she was with her parents in 1861 and 1871; she was buried at Bobbingworth churchyard, Essex, 14 March 1940, aged 89, late of Silver Beech, Withdean Road, Brighton; she was married to William CALDERWOD, with issue.
2. Janet THOMSON, born at Loudoun, 1853; with her parents in 1861 and 1871; she was married to William MILLER.
3. Marion THOMSON, born at Burnbank Farm, Loudoun, 5 August 1855; she was with her parents in 1891; she was buried at Bobbingworth churchyard, Essex, 10 January 1940, aged 85 [Monumental Inscription].
4. William THOMSON, born at Burnbank Farm, 9 March 1858, at 7.45 a.m., a twin; with his parents, 1861, 1871, 1881; he died at the Infirmary, Kilmarnock, 9 March 1891, aged 34 years exactly, of Disease of Spine; he was married to Eliza ANDERSON; she married secondly, to Robert YOUNG, the widower of her late husband William's twin sister Elizabeth. 5. Elizabeth THOMSON, born at Burnbank Farm, 9 March 1858, at 8.15 a.m., the other twin; she married Robert YOUNG. See below.
6. Margaret THOMSON, born at Burnbank Farm, 4 November 1859; with her parents, 1861, 1871; she was buried at Bobbingworth churchyard, Essex, 9 March 1938, aged 78, late of Home View, Ongar Park; she was married to James KERR; with issue.
7. Gavin Lindsay THOMSON, born at East Newton Farm, Loudoun, 16 March 1864; he was with his parents, 1871, 1881, 1891; he witnessed the marriage at Newton-on-Ayr, 1889, of James HOWATSON; Gavin was married to Jane HENDRY.
8. David THOMSON, born at Beith, 19 January 1873; he died at Highgate, Beith, 30 January 1873, aged 11 days, of Spina Bifida, informed by his father.
