    Notes about Isabel Maccraw

    1. Peter Scott, born in 1811 in Cargill, Perthshire (Ref 1851 and 1861 Census Scotland) birth register cannot be found online. When he dies suddenly in 1864, in Dundee, his parents are recorded as John Scott and Margaret Douglas, and also recorded as being deceased. His Father reported to have been a Farmer. [1864 SCOTT, PETER (Statutory registers Deaths 282/1 724)]
Two marriages with these names are found in Scotlands people.
The first is in 1817 at Dull, Perthshire naming John Scott and Margaret Douglas. [01/02/1817 SCOTT, JOHN, MARGARET DOUGLAS (Old Parish Registers Marriages 346/ 50 388 Dull)].
The second marriage, naming John Scott and Margaret Douglas as the couple, takes place in Logierait, Perthshire, in 1824. [19/12/1824 SCOTT, JOHN, MARGARET DOUGLAS (Old Parish Registers Marriages 376/ 40 19 Logierait)]
In the Scotland Censuses, 1841 through to 1871, John Scott and Margaret Douglas, are living at Croftlea, in Logierait Parish, Perthshire.
Death records can be found for both John Scott and Margaret Douglas.
Margaret Douglas dies 27 Feb 1872, Croftlea, Logierait Parish, Perthshire, recorded as married to John Scott, Crofter.
[1872 SCOTT, MARGARET, 83, (Statutory registers Deaths 376/ 9) Logierait].
John Scott dies Mar 1875 at Croftlea, in Logierait Parish, Perthshire, recorded as widower to Margaret Douglas.
[1875 SCOTT, JOHN (Statutory registers Deaths 376/ 26) Logierait].
As Peter Scott’s parent are deceased in 1864, the John Scott and Margaret Douglas married in Logierait in 1824 can be ruled out as Peter’s parent’s.
Peters parents have been recorded as John Scott and Margaret Douglas, married in Dull, in 1817. This is Six years after Peter’s birth, which although not unusual, why did they wait six years to marry?
A birth record for John Scott can be found in Dull Parish, b. Dull, Baptism Date 26 Jul 1786, Parents John Scott and Janet Anderson. (It must be noted that there are more than one birth round about this date, but this birth is the most likely)
A Birth record can be found for a Margaret Douglas, b. Dull, Baptism Date 08 Dec 1793, Parents Donald Douglass
    and Isabel Maccraw.
Searches for a marriage found John Scott and Margaret Douglass, Marriage Date 1 Feb 1817, Dull, Perthshire.
A marriage record for Margaret’s parents, Donald Douglass and Isabel Maccraw can also be found, recorded 15 Nov 1792 Dull and 8 January, Logierait. This marriage date would tie in with Margaret’s birth in December 1793.

1841 Census records taken in Dull provide two John Scott’s.
John Scott, Age 55, living at East Park, Dull, born around 1786, in Perthshire, with no occupation. Peter Scott, Age 60, Head, is Farmer. There is a Mary Scott age 45 living in the house. There is no sign of Margaret.
In the 1851 Census, also in East Park, John Scott, Born Dull, Perthshire, Age 70, retired farmer, and Mary Scott, Sister, age 65 appear. Mary appears to be the Mary living at East Park in the 1841 Census.
The other John Scott, in the 1841 Census was born in Perthshire, in 1796, living at Clachan, Dull, occupation Farmer.
No sign of Margaret in this place either.

Conclusion: Margaret Douglas appears to die before the 1841 Census.
