Hi Maisie

I've seen many banns registers in England but not in Scotland. Marriage registers in Scotland tended to just be lists of either marriages or what they call proclamations, which are a bit like banns in that the proclamation took place from the pulpit usually ... and were supposed to be 3 Sundays prior to the marriage.

but it can be as little as this -
26 Nov 1854, Bathgate, Thomas Hood and Janet Anthony both of this parish were proclaimed.

or this -
Eastwood RFW (Renfrewshire) Robert Deans and Margaret Craig both of this parish gave up their names in order to marriage 2 Apr 1720 and being third proclaimed were married 22 of the same inst by Mr Robert Woodrow

but there are no banns books of the type that exist in England....or if there are I've never seen them.

Irene

3. It is stated on Beatrices birth register that her parents married 30 December 1855 in Bathgate? Thomas Hood, Father is witness at her birth!
