St Mary Cemetery was consecrated in 1865 when the burials at the Catholic Cemetery at the end of State Street were disinterred and moved to Slough Hill. The former cemetery is now a playground. The cemetery has been expanded several times. The oldest sections are located between Hatfield Street and North Elm Street. They radiate out from the former Slough Hill schoolhouse, which now is a private residence. A newer section on North Elm Street was added in the 1950s. The newest section is across from the cemetery on Bridge Road.
This is NOT St Mary of the Assumption on Haydenville Road/Rte 9 in the Leeds section of Northampton. Death certificates and obituaries specifically connotate St Mary of the Assumption as St Mary's Haydenville or Leeds.Links ° 10,659 interments.
