      In 1813 werden alle mannelijke inwoners van Amersfoort die tussen de 20 en de 40 jaar waren opgeroepen om zich als dienstplichtige te registreren.

      Niet alleen in Amersfoort, maar in het hele land werden in dat jaar de tussen 1773 en 1792 geboren mannen ingeschreven. In Amersfoort ging het om bijna 900 mannen van wie naast de naam ook de geboorteplaats, geboorte- of doopdatum, burgerlijke staat, lengte, beroep, vermogen en eventuele lichamelijke gebreken werden genoteerd. Loting zou vervolgens uitmaken wie daadwerkelijk zijn militaire dienstplicht moest vervullen. Degenen die ingeloot werden konden overigens tegen betaling een plaatsvervanger of remplaçant aanstellen.
