Ealdorman of the Gainas in Mercia. m EADBURGA, daughter of [150][CENWULF King of Mercia & his wife Elfrida]. Asser records that Alfred's mother-in-law "Edburga of the royal line of Mercia was a venerable lady and after the decease of her husband, she remained many years a widow, even till her own death"[151]. According to Weir[152], she was perhaps the daughter of Cenwulf King of Mercia. The primary source on which this is based has not yet been identified, and the chronology is not favourable considering King Cenwulf's death in 821. Æthelred & his wife had two children [Medlands]
