    Otto ter Hansouwe ontleende zijn naam aan het huis ter Hansouwe in Eelde. In de Nederl. Heraut deel VI, pag. 32, vinden wij in 1376 in Peize een "Johan thoe der Hansowe", in 1445 een "Otto ter Hansouwen", dien ik reeds straks heb genoemd. Hij bekleedde gedurende vele jaren - sedert 1453 - te Groningen de aanzienlijke betrekkingen van Hoofdman en Burgemeester; het laatst verschijnt hij als zoodanig in 1475 (zie Emmius, Fasti Consulares). Zijne weduwe komt voor in eene oorkonde van 1481.
