    His son Sjoerd Dirk August Wartena (Wolvega, 1871-Doorwerth, 1953), educated at the university and the seminary at Amsterdam, served at Terschelling 1894-1897, Veenwouden 1897-1902, Zutphen 1902-1909, Heerenveen 1909-1922, and Hallum from 1922 until he retired in 1936. He is the author of a paper on "Jan Thomas," Doopsgezinde Bijdragen 1896.

    Sjoerd Wartena was doopsgezind predikant te Zutphen en later te Heerenveen. Hij bevestigde Annie Zernike, de eerste vrouwelijke predikant in Nederland, in het ambt.
