    Jan Gerloffs was hopman te Groningen. Hij was de zoon van Gerleff Jansen en Trijntien Rotgers.

    - IIIx 75 fol. 205 - 22 juni 1697 - Voormond en voogden, meester Antonie Dudinck, luitenant Uphuis en Hilbrant Hoendricks, over de nagelaten kinderen van wijlen de hopman Jan Gerloffs en Geertruit Hoendricks (ehel.) verkopen aan Wilhelmus van der Schuer, predikant binnen Groningen, en Gesina Ardingius (ehel.) een hof gelegen in de Nieuwe Haddigestraat eigen grond, met bomen en plantagien, houten planketting, tuinhuisje en hetgene daarin is, prieel zitplaatsje en een boede waar men naar de Molendrift uitgaat en alles wat er bij hoort, zoals hopman Jan Gerloffs bij overlijden heeft nagelaten. Koopsom 400 car. gld.
